David H. Rust, Colonel, U.S. Army

David is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Terri Rust, his twin sister Dotty, his son Dean (Tina) Rust and grandchildren, Hailee, Dain, Delainee, and Saidee Rust, his daughter Amberlee Rust, and grandchildren Brianna, Jamal and Anthony Rust, his daughter Crystal (Jonathan) Dunning, and grandchildren, Jameson, Lochlan and Whitman Dunning, and his sister Barbara Vance and brother Steve Rust (Pam) and many nieces and nephews.

Born in Covington, Kentucky on January 20,1941, David was a seventh generation Kentuckian. He attended Eastern Kentucky State College and upon graduation was commissioned in the Regular Army. He was called to active duty immediately and served with distinction for 26 years. He served for five years in Germany, two years in Vietnam with the First Infantry Division and Headquarters, U.S. Army, Vietnam, and one year in Korea. During his active duty service, David obtained and MBA from the College of William and Mary in Virginia. Upon his retirement, David joined Johnson Controls World Services as a manager. He was Logistics Manager for U.S. Army, Kwajalein in the Marshall Islands, one of the most remote military bases in the world. He was subsequently assigned as General Manager of the base support contract for Fort Irwin, California, in the Mojave Desert. He was the recipient of numerous awards and decorations during his military career and following that he was awarded the Department of the Army Civilian Award for Humanitarian Service for his contribution to the rescue, reception, security, feeding and clothing of 535 Chinese refuges found in grave health after being abandoned on a disabled ship in the Pacific Ocean. His proudest achievement, however was being a father and grandfather to Dean, Amberlee and Crystal and their children.
