David was born March 19, 1957, in Atlanta, Georgia to James and Doris Ballou. David was the youngest of four brothers.

At a young age, David developed a love for the ocean and the beach. He was also fascinated by how things work, so he followed this passion and attended college at Georgia Institute of Technology and received a degree in Mechanical Engineering. This degree and his talents opened the door for David to work for many aerospace companies such as Lockheed Martin and United Launch Alliance (ULA) in Cape Canaveral, Florida, as a Payload Specialist.  After David’s retirement from ULA, he continued to work as a consultant for Blue Origin.

David married Ginger Shapiro in 1999 and they made their home together in Cocoa Beach sharing a passion for scuba diving, for world-wide traveling, and for their beloved dogs.

David was a member of Trinity Wellsprings Church for more than 20 years and enjoyed sharing his beautiful voice by singing in the choir. David was an active member of the Kennedy Space Center Barracuda Dive Club for more than 30 years and served as the Photography Chair.

David and Ginger’s beautiful riverfront home was always open to family and friends. David, aided by Ginger, served as the primary caregiver for his mother through the long years of her illness that kept her bedridden.

David is survived by his wife Ginger Ballou (parents David Macklin Lee (deceased), Julie Lynn (John) Oksendahl), beloved dogs Oliver and Anna Ballou, and his three brothers, Hugh Macpherson Ballou (Leigh Anne), James Eustace Ballou, Jr. (Debbie), and William Pierce Ballou (Robin). He leaves behind a number of cousins, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews who loved him.

David passed into life eternal on May 9, 2022. His memory will always be cherished by his wife, his family, and his many friends and neighbors.
