Daniel “Dan” Marion Baggett passed away on July 14, 2022, at the age of 64 in his home in Cocoa Beach, Florida. A native Floridian and longtime resident of Cocoa Beach, Florida, Dan loved his family, fishing, and the great outdoors. Recounting the numerous extraordinary outdoor adventures, fishing stories, and sporting rivalries he shared growing up alongside his siblings in “old Cocoa Beach”, would captivate any audience. Their exploits are legendary to this day.

He took this love of sports, the great outdoors, and especially fishing with him into adulthood, where he ran a local bait and tackle shop supporting anglers and outdoorsmen. Dan was always ready to hear and share their latest catch. When he began his 34 years of service with Wal-Mart in 1986, he brought along that small hometown feel to a larger venue. If looking for Dan, you could nearly always find him working hard managing your local Indian Harbor Beach Wal-Mart sporting goods department. Each day he made it his goal to provide the best service and knowledge for all customers, particularly local customers. He uniquely tailored the services and inventory available at a big box store to feel more like you were back at the local bait and tackle shop. He was well respected and knew many patrons by name.

When he wasn’t working, you could find him out landing his next big catch and subsequent fisherman’s tale with family or friends at his side. Dan was an incredibly loving husband, father and grandfather. He took the time to cherish life’s little moments like watching the sunset with his wife after a long day’s work, or sitting out on his porch listening to one of his children talk about their day. He would do anything for his children, whether it was helping with homework, attending activities and events, or just being there to give a listening ear and words of wisdom. He valued time well spent with his family. Some may consider that life’s monotonous moments, but to Dan, it gave him a great deal of pride and joy.

He was an avid football fan (Go Cowboys, Go Gators) and also enjoyed little league baseball coaching for many years. Dan loved to help young kids gain confidence while learning to play ball. Dan especially appreciated time spent with grandkids teaching them about life, and of course, how to fish. He was often heard saying, “You made my day!”, with a big smile when they were around. Dan Baggett was well loved and will be missed by everyone.

Dan is survived by his wife, Carol Baggett, sons Alan Baggett, Sean Cairns, and Johnnie Cairns, and daughter Michelle Cairns. He was a proud Grandpa to Adam, Layla, Anna, and Alyson. Other survivors include his sister Barbara Amman of Savannah Georgia, Billy Baggett of Cape Canaveral, David Baggett of Floridana Beach, and Stephen Baggett of Cape Canaveral. He was preceded in death by his father Julian A. Baggett of Cocoa Beach and mother Marie (Jenkins) Baggett of Cocoa Beach. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to Onelagoon.org, an organization that aids in the preservation of the Indian River Lagoon. This cause was near and dear to Dan’s heart.
