Charles David “Dave” Barter, aged 89, of Merritt Island, Florida passed away on September 5, 2024. Born in Pensacola, Florida on February 22, 1935, he lived a life marked by devotion to his family and a multitude of passions and achievements. He was a polio survivor and faced many obstacles in his life but let nothing hold him back from being an active part in his family’s lives or many friends lives and adventures.

Dave is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Judith Ann Barter; daughter, Pamela A. Prather (David); son, Michael D. Barter; grandchildren, Ryan, Travis, Lindsey, Evan and Bailey; and great-grandsons, Nolan, Holden, and Waylon. He was preceded in death by his father, Sidney Barter; mother, Pearl Gretchen Barter; and two sisters.

Professionally, Dave was the long-time manager of U Rent It, Inc., demonstrating strong leadership and dedication. He had very fond memories of all his employees and the friends he made along the way. Following his successful career, he channeled his entrepreneurial spirit into owning his own small equipment repair business until his retirement.

An avid adventurer, letting nothing stop him from living life to it’s fullest, Dave held a pilot’s license which he flew his family many times and was a certified diver taking his children on snorkeling and lobster diving trips to the Florida Keys many summers during their childhood. He had a special bond with all his grandchildren in their each individual ways, in which they all learned many life lessons of which the one that always stands out the most is “don’t let anything hold you back from doing what you want to do!”

Island Cremation is assisting the family with arrangements, ensuring that Dave’s final farewell is as remarkable as his life was.
