Carl Richard Huffman was born in Arnprior, Ontario, Canada on January 29, 1954. He was lovingly adopted by Josephine Dutka Huffman and Carl Franklin Huffman along with three indelible siblings, Louise, Joseph, and Jacqueline. After his family settled in Maitland, Florida, Carl played rugby and football for Lyman High School before enlisting in the United States Air Force; first in signals intelligence, then in engineering. His 28-year career took him, and often his children and their mother Paula Huffman, around the world where he never missed an opportunity to impart to his daughter, Lauren Asenath, and son, Paul Richard, new safety lessons they would ignore in their youth but rely on as adults.
Upon retiring from the Air Force, Carl quickly realized that civilian life could not compete with the adventure of a well-traveled military career that eventually focused on rockets and space flight. Instead, he continued his lifelong commitment to service by supporting fellow veterans in overseeing the construction of VA hospitals and cemeteries. He was incredibly proud of his latter career projects, particularly of Cape Canaveral National Cemetery where he will be interred on July 30, 2024. Please join his family in honoring his final resting place at 9:45am (Line A) in the National Cemetery followed by a celebration at Rusty’s in Port Canaveral at 11am.
He will be deeply missed by his family, including his niece and nephews (Alex, Matthew, Billy, Chris), the countless veterans he helped register disability claims with the VA, and the local service industry he steadily supported.
In lieu of flowers, please contribute monetarily or in service to your local veteran’s support organizations.
