Barbara Ann Cox
February 12, 1941 – September 18, 2023
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Barbara Cox, 82, at Hospice of Health First-Cape Canaveral Hospital on Monday, September 18th. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend that will be greatly missed.
Barbara was born in Orange, New Jersey on February 12, 1941. She was the third child of Jack & Mildred Fittin. Her family later moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She attended Saint Thomas Aquinas High School where she met her husband, John, her high school sweetheart. Barbara was well loved by everyone that knew her. Her smile and joy for life was contagious. She was always the life of the party! It’s not surprising she was crowned Homecoming Queen in high school.
She married John Joseph Cox, the love of her life on October 20, 1962. They had a long, full life together for over 60 years. Her husband, three children, six grand-children and one great grand-child were the center of her life.
She is survived by her husband, John Cox of Merritt Island, Florida; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Paul Cournoyer of Webster, Massachusetts; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Deanne Cox of New Smyrna Beach, Florida; daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and Jim Russo of Gainesville, Georgia; six grandchildren, Ryan (Janine) Cournoyer of Chicago, Illinois, Kaley Cournoyer of Charleston, South Carolina, Courtney (Barrett) Sathianathan of Lakeland, Florida, Cameron Cox of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, Bryce and Brooke Russo of Gainesville, Georgia; and one great-grand child, Charlie Cournoyer of Chicago, Illinois; brother Jack Fittin (Margie) of Glen Ridge New Jersey, and many loved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Jack Fittin and mother, Mildred Fittin; and sister, Janet (Eddie) Kornasky.
Barbara worked for BellSouth as an administrative assistant for over 20 years. After her retirement, she continued working at Port Canaveral as a customer service representative with Royal Caribbean International for many years. She had a love for socializing with others and making new friends! Her love of God and love for her family were Barbara’s guiding principles throughout her life. She attended Church of Our Saviour Catholic Church in Cocoa Beach, Florida. She died a strong believer in the Roman Catholic Church and is now at home with her parents, sister and Jesus.
