Carl Douglas Smith (Doug), a resident of Merritt Island for 24 years, passed away on August 17, 2013. He is survived by his wife Patricia (Patti), sons Douglas and David Smith, daughters Denise Moore, Deddie Edmond and JoAnne Guevara. Great Grandchildren; Shelbie Moore, Skyler Karagenes and Michael and Ryleigh Chaney. Doug is also survived by his brother Micky Davis.

Doug was predeceased in death by his son Randy who passed away in February of this year.

Doug was born in phoenix City, Alabama on November 19, 1932′ He was raised in Alice, Texas and upon graduation attended Texas A&M. He entered the Army in 1956 and retired as a Colonel.

His Overseas assignment during his 28 years of service include France, Germany (twice), Republic of China and Republic of Vietnam.

Col. Smith awards include the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal (Oak Leaf Cluster), the Meritorious Service Medal (Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Commendation Medal (Oak Leaf Cluster) and the Republic of Vietnam Honor Medal (with Palm).

Doug and his wife Patti moved to Merritt Island in 1988 where they enjoyed his favorite hobby, bowling. He had six 300 games and at the age of 77 bowled a 300 game and 803 series. He also had a love of cars and spend hours working on restoring cars and making them show pieces. He belonged to the Antique Automobile Car Club Cape Canaveral and took his cars to the Club shows.

Doug will be interned at Arlington National Cemetery.
