Robert H. Smith, of New Lenox, Illinois loving husband, father and papa passed away unexpectedly but peacefully in his sleep on June 24, 2020 at the age of 61. Bob lived and worked tirelessly for his family always making sure we were taken care of. He has left a huge emptiness in our hearts but a lifetime of memories to carry us through until we meet again.

Bobby or Smitty as he was known to many, leaves behind his wife of 35 years, Deborah, daughter Carrie Lynn (Travis), son Daniel Sean and three beautiful granddaughters, Keira, Tanner and Eden. He was preceded in death by his best-friend and brother James H. Smith Jr., his mother Roberta Jensen and his father James H. Smith Sr. Bob is also survived by his sister Kathleen, many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Bob was a south-sider all his life. Born in Blue Island, raised in Chicago Ridge, married in Oak Lawn then moved further south to raise his family. While serving as an infantryman he spent time in Colorado Springs and Korea. He was member of the Teamsters Local 705 over 28 years and recently retired from Chicago Suburban Express. He was just starting to enjoy his retirement at Cocoa Beach when he was called home. Bob was a lifelong Chicago Bears, Blackhawks and Cubs fan.

Don’t go looking for the reasons, don’t go asking Jesus why, we’re not meant to know the answers, they belong to the by and by – seen my share of broken halos, folded wings that used to fly, they’ve all gone wherever they go, broken halos that used to shine…

My husband was an Army Veteran and they draped him with the American Flag as they were removing him from VITAS Hospice. We just had a wonderful experience at Island cremation with my father-in-law’s funeral. We had three meetings before the ceremony even started to make sure that everything was going to be done properly and that we’re all on the same page. Island cremation arranged for the Marines to come and do a flag honor ceremony that was an excellent touch and made the whole ceremony very memorable. The funeral home was very clean and they even had masks and hand sanitizer set out. They helped setting up our food plus supplied some of their own. Very professional and highly recommended.

At one of the most devastating times in my life, I contacted Island Cremations, Merritt Island, FL. My husband who was never sick was diagnosed with cancer. There was no hope for him. His rapid decline was terrible to witness. The people at Island Cremations were excellent, respectful, and very caring. They went above and beyond. I had a Celebration of Life for my husband on his birthday last Friday.

Island Cremations helped me plan for the Funeral. They have been like family. I even brought my husband’s miniature poodle.

Dillon, Mike & Dawn helped me set up and clean up. We brought in food and drinks. I had a soft jazz CD playing in the rooms. The alter had my husband’s Dolphin Urn and flowers. His picture with him holding a 52 pound Dolphin was on a projector screen above the alter.

Pastor Babington did a wonderful sermon. The family & friends spoke of memorial times.

We all thank you for your kindness and warmth for this Celebration of Life for my husband.
