A funeral Mass will be held on April 4, 2020 at 11:00 AM at St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Roman Catholic Church; 18 Baltic Street, South Attleboro, Massachusetts. A graveside service will follow at Newell Burying Grounds; 1502 West Street, South Attleboro, Massachusetts. A time of gathering to celebrate Richard’s life will be held that afternoon, details still to be determined.

Richard James McCormick, 69, passed away on January 14, 2020 in Rockledge, Florida. He was born on April 13, 1950 in Providence, Rhode Island. He was the son of late Frederick B. McCormick and Florence McCormick (Harris) of South Attleboro, Massachusetts and brother of the late Charles McCormick.

Survivors include his son, Richard James McCormick, Jr. and daughter, Cathleen Berthelette, both of Melbourne Florida; 3 grandchildren, Patrick, Jacob and Emily; sister Carolyn Hornig and brother Frederick McCormick, Jr.; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

During his young adult years, Richard enjoyed being outdoors with his family. Some of his favorite activities were camping and boating in New Hampshire. He leaves behind happy memories of laughter while riding go-carts with his son, Richard Jr. and daughter, Cathleen during their childhood years. Cathleen has fond memories of Richard dancing to his favorite “oldies” and later in life, dancing with her. Cathleen and her father shared the thrill of riding on his motorcycle and getting the “first car” in every roller-coaster they rode on together.

We had three meetings before the ceremony even started to make sure that everything was going to be done properly and that we’re all on the same page. Island cremation arranged for the Marines to come and do a flag honor ceremony that was an excellent touch and made the whole ceremony very memorable. The funeral home was very clean and they even had masks and hand sanitizer set out. They helped setting up our food plus supplied some of their own. Very professional and highly recommended.

I had a Celebration of Life for my husband on his birthday last Friday.

Island Cremations helped me plan for the Funeral. They have been like family. I even brought my husband’s miniature poodle.

Dillon, Mike & Dawn helped me set up and clean up. We brought in food and drinks. I had a soft jazz CD playing in the rooms. The alter had my husband’s Dolphin Urn and flowers. His picture with him holding a 52 pound Dolphin was on a projector screen above the alter.

Pastor Babington did a wonderful sermon. The family & friends spoke of memorial times.

We all thank you for your kindness and warmth for this Celebration of Life for my husband.
