Margaret M. Scarborough Obituary

Margaret Mary Scarborough (Spross) passed away peacefully on October 22, 2018 at the young age of 96. Marge was born on October 18, 1922 in Philadelphia, PA and grew up as the oldest child in a family of 16. As a proud Philly girl, she served her country when she worked at a local factory which manufactured airplane parts during World War II.

Marge met her husband Harry Edward Scarborough through their shared love of baseball, he as a player and she as his number one heckler. They married in 1950 and had six children during Harry’s career as an officer in the United States Air Force. They moved around to different Air Force bases located in South Carolina, California, Wisconsin, and Kansas, including an overseas tour in Germany.

Harry and Marge loved military life. When Harry retired in 1966, after serving 25 years in the Air Force, it became “Marge in Charge” and the family relocated to Merritt Island, Florida where Harry worked for the Space Program and Marge took special pleasure having holiday parties with family and friends. Harry passed away in 2004 after more than 50 years of marriage. For the next 14 years Marge lived independently by herself, right up to her 96th birthday.

Marge was predeceased by her husband Harry in 2004 and their youngest child, Paul Tracy Scarborough, on September 21, 2018.

Marge’s cherished legacies were her children and their families. She leaves 5 children and their spouses: David E. Scarborough (Teddi) of Rockledge; Peter E. Scarborough (Denise) of Merritt Island; Diane Ynosencio (Stephen Ross) of Cocoa; Pamela Crotty (Rich) of Orlando; and Janice Gundersen (Gary) of Ocala.

She had 9 grandchildren: Margaret Simeone (Christian), Lucy Ynosencio, Vidal Ynosencio, Lauren Price (Daren), David Scarborough, Peter Scarborough, Christina Crotty, Tyler Crotty, and Mary Lopez (Les), plus 7 great-grandchildren: Christopher, Joseph, Luke, Matthew, Sophia, Travis and Eve.

She will be missed by her sisters Kate, Veronica, and Jane, as well as by her loving nieces and nephews, God daughter Agnes Karpo and close friends Geri Botyos and Carolyn Scrom.

The welcome mat at Marge’s house was always out for family, friends and family pets. Everyone knew her to be a caring, thoughtful, appreciative and unselfish person. You could always count on Marge to speak her mind. Besides being a longtime member of the Divine Mercy Women’s Club, where she helped organize fundraisers for the church, she was an avid bowler, volunteered as a poll worker at the local voter precinct, and was always working on a crossword puzzle. Marge loved all sports which continued throughout her life.  She especially loved to go out on the Victory Casino gambling ship where she was a regular at the slots and some family members think she might have had her own onboard suite.

Although she will be dearly missed, her family feels blessed to have had Marge as their Mother. They are thankful for all the wonderful memories and know that she is finally at peace after a rich and happy life.
