Captain Leslie Waddington died peacefully at Regional Holmes Hospital on October 29, 2017 in Melbourne, Florida at the age of 66.
Les was born is Acushnet, MA on August, 17, 1951 to Les Waddington and Eunice (Haskins) Waddington. After graduating from Falmouth high school and college at CCCC, Les moved to Cape Canaveral Florida where he worked as a Merchant Marine in Port Canaveral for over 30 years. He started his long MSC career in 1973 as a Food Handler. After working as a seaman from 1974-1978, Les began moving through the ranks, becoming third mate in 1979. He was a second mate from 1982-1990, and a chief mate from 1990-2003. In 2001 he received his captains license, and spent his last years as the Captain for the Victory Casino in Cape Canaveral.
Away from the sea, Captain had a passion for remodeling homes, taking care of nature, creating and painting art pieces, and socializing. He never met a stranger, never had any rules, loved his kids immensely, and lived life to the fullest.
Les is survived by his children, Diana Waddington Corvin of Pensacola, FL, Leslie “Tico” Waddington of Rockledge, FL, Nicholas Daniel Waddington of Rockledge, FL, and Suyapa Waddington of Rockledge, FL, along with 2 grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Sandra Waddington Jumper of Sacramento, CA, Debra A. Waddington Netto of Falmouth, MA, and Joseph Arujo of Maine.
The family would like to thank the caregivers and hospital staff for their efforts and care.
