U.S. Veteran

Herbert E. (Buzz) Sawyer

April 25, 1926 – July 24, 2016

Forever young at age 90. Herb is survived by his wife, Teresa Bies-Sawyer, and his four children: Rebecca Sawyer (Byron) Long, Sabrina Sawyer (John) Gerlach, Jason (Norma) Sawyer and Whitney E. Sawyer, six grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and sister and brother-in-law, Diane (Bies) and Craig Brannock.

Active and alert right up to the end, he spent his last day on earth the way he wanted to: enjoying a sunny afternoon around the swimming pool, joking with family, watching golf, raising a glass or two, and sitting down to a home-cooked meal. But in the twinkling of an eye, he was gone. His heart stopped suddenly, and his spirit left this world. Off to a better place with unparalleled beauty. A new adventure began.

He lived a full life; he laughed often. He loved who he was and what he did, but mostly he loved people. He always found the good in everyone.

Friends and family gathered to celebrate his life on the afternoon of July 28 at his home in Merritt Island, Florida.

Some might say that the world is so much less by Herb’s passing. Instead, say it was so much more because of his presence, touching each life he came in contact with through his friendship, his teaching, his art and his faith in Jesus Christ. His legacy of love lives on through those who knew him.

As former art teacher and substitute teacher, he encouraged and enriched the lives of countless thousands of students who were fortunate enough to share his wit, wisdom and talent. Bon Voyage, Herb. Save us a place at the great banquet table.
