Island Cremations & Funeral Home ~ Merritt Island, Florida ~ 321-454-3331

May 27, 1922 - July 26, 2020

With a heavy heart, yet thankful for her full and fruitful life, we announce the peaceful passing of Gertrude (Gale) Gettel, age 98, on Sunday July 26, 2020 at her residence in The Fountains community in Melbourne.  Gale’s last years have been spent enjoying her life with friends, neighbors and visits from her family following the death of her husband, Eugene Gettel, in 2007.

Born in Boston, Gale was the eldest daughter of Professor W. E. Nightingale and Mary Rowe and a graduate of Middlebury College.  She was predeceased by her brothers Charles and Chester and is survived by her sister Erma Wiggin, her three sons, Steve, Gary and wife Vicki, Roger and wife Wendy, her nine grandchildren, and her six great grandchildren.

Gale was a dedicated member of the choir and handbell ringers at Eastminster Presbyterian Church. She was an accomplished tennis player, an avid bridge player, and a tenacious cribbage player who quietly reveled in the comradery of the games.

Due to the uncertainties and dangers of travelling and gathering amid this pandemic the family has decided to delay scheduling a memorial service until a later date.  Should you wish to make a donation in her memory, the music program at Eastminster Presbyterian Church in Indialantic, Florida was a wonderful part of her life.
