A Celebration of life is being planned in April.


Gerald (Jerry) Wyatt Houchins, age 75 of Melbourne Beach, Florida was called home on February 2, 2020 at his home with his wife Susan, son Derek and daughter Lisa by his side.

Jerry was born in Beckley, WV on April 11, 1944 to Henry T.  and Lorraine Houchins. The family moved to Orlando, Florida in 1951. Jerry graduated from William R. Boone High School and joined the United States Marine Corps Reserves in June, 1963. He was honorably discharged in 1969. He received an AA Degree in business from Valencia Community College in 1973.

Jerry was a Christian, he loved the Lord, his family and friends and was a member of the Downtown Baptist Church, Orlando, FL. He was an active member of the South Orlando Kiwanis Club.

Jerry met Susan in 1980 and they married in 1986. Together they owned and operated several businesses in Orlando.

Jerry was an outdoorsman, he loved the woods and mountains. He was an avid hunter and traveled on many hunting and camping trips all over the country with friends.  His longtime love of horses got him into Team Roping and Team Penning and he participated in local jackpot rodeos.

In 1996, Jerry and Susan moved to Monroe County, WV, the county where his ancestors settled in the Greenville area in the 1700’s. He became a Real Estate Broker and opened “Great Mountain Properties LLC” and “C&H Farms” in 2001. Jerry also was a member of The Appalachian Christian Center, Peterstown, WV.

In 2010, Jerry and Susan retired to Melbourne Beach, FL and he took up pier and surf fishing. He loved his long time friends and was always ready to go hunting or fishing.

He was preceded in death by his Mother and Father, brothers Randy and William.

Surviving family members include his wife, Susan Houchins (Melbourne Beach, FL), son Derek W. Houchins (Peterstown, WV), daughter Lisa A. Rathburn (Orlando, FL), grandson Elijah W. Houchins (Peterstown, WV), brother Thomas (Dee) Houchins, Georgia. Several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Per Jerry’s wishes, he has been cremated. Also per his wishes, there will be no funeral.
