Georgia (Mewes Dikeman Weir) Cooper ended her journey on Earth and ascended to Heaven on January 6, 2018, at 70 years of age after a short battle with cancer.

She was born in Fairbury, Nebraska to Jessie & George Dikeman II in October 1947. She was a toddler when her father died. Her mother later married Audry “Ace” Gaunt, who raised her as his own.

She married Aaron “Bruce” Weir and had a son, Edwin Weir. They divorced. She was married to Leroy Cooper & later divorced. They had two sons, Michael & Timothy.

When she was two, she became deaf as a result of the Measles outbreak. In 1957, her family moved to Phillipsburg, Kansas. Her parents enrolled her in 4th Grade, but she was not able to mainstream into the public school system. She then attended the Kansas School for the Deaf, Olathe, Kansas, where she lived during the school year. Time with her family during the holidays and summer break was precious. She graduated in 1966.

After graduating from KSD, she attended Gallaudet College, Washington, DC. and attended Brown-Mackie Business School, Salina, KS for a short time. She extended her education at other learning institutions and received a Bachelor’s degree from Orlando College.

She lived in various places during her adulthood: Missouri, Arizona, Cheyenne & Gillette, Wyoming. She settled in Florida where she worked at Disney World for several years.

Georgia loved animals, and had a pet most of her life. She collected swan figurines and Angels. She inherited a green thumb from her mother, and had lovely plants and flowers.

She is survived by sons Edwin, Michael, and Timothy and their spouses, step-children Brenda and Chad, many grandchildren, brothers Gerry & George Dikeman, sisters Mira Gaunt Dean & Jean Gaunt Hawkins, and many nieces and nephews.
